Iolite [13 Jun 2010|11:40pm]

Well after a lot of scanning issues, which never got toally worked out, I finally have my newest painting to show.

I'm starting to do a gemstone series, but as a jeweller I didn't want to go with birthstones like so many people use, especially when there are so many gemstones out there.

This is Iolite, Watercolour on Aquaboard.

Iolite, is a lovely red head who wears the violet stone to enhace her visions.

Fairy Stories~ [02 Sep 2009|12:48pm]

Hello, lovers of faerie tales~

I, myself, am a lover of them, too...but also a creator. I write a macabre sort of fairy tale that is told in installments online...it is called Widdershin Wood, and I wanted to share a bit about it:

It is oftentimes expected that most fairy stories will end with a kiss… this is how ours begins, and goes marginally downhill from here.

Morgen’s life is wyrd. She was left on Baba Yaga’s doorstep (hard to do when a house is on chicken legs) as a child, and now she’s almost all grown up, having been raised by the witch herself. The problem? She’s a fairy. And their famous poultry inn stalks the border between a somewhat normal world and the Widdershin Wood, which is hardly normal at all. It’s a macabre life, but someone has to wing it.

Widdershin Wood is a magical webserial (a novel, published on the internet and in installments) written by the quirky authoress, Sarah Diemer. It is updated with a chapter each on Tuesdays, Fridays and random blue moons upon which there is a surplus of chocolate and ink.

I do hope you'll take a peek and see if you like it~ :)

(Also, my best friend writes a fairy tale, too! You can see hers at The Poppet and the Lune--it's beyond lovely!)

New Faerie Inlay Pendants [07 Mar 2009|07:37pm]

I finally got around to photographing this set of pendants. All hand crafted by Me in Argentium Sterling Silver with prints of my paintings set beneath an epoxy resin. I'm hoping to be able to produce a number of  variations on these in the near future for sale, once I work out the kinks in my molds.  Let me know what you think.

[ mood | accomplished ]

I am madmonkeyshow, a Faery artist and writer.  My interests are storytelling, sculpture and polymer clay, a medium which I have been working in for thirty five years now. I believe in Faeries as living realities, that they interact with me in my life.  My Faery art has many admirers, and can be seen at aprilsfaeryart.webs.com. Ignore the message that says the website does not exist; just click on the address directly.  I also have a deviant art page, a lonely Facebook account and a listing among Tribes, although I can't locate it at the present moment.  This is not my first live journal; I hope it will not be my last.  I plan to write a book about the experiences I have had as a Faery believer, and to document the Faeries I am acquainted with.  My Faery figurines have joined a few households over the years, and people have told me funny stories; that they use their Faeries to evaulate new friends(My little ones tend to turn their backs on people they like, but to ignore ones they don't), that pets variously love or hate them, ect.  I am also interested in meeting anyone else who works in polymer clay, making Faeries or anything else.  I hope you are a friendly lot; my last community did not have much of a sense of humor...

New Dryad work [10 Apr 2008|09:53am]

Begun originally in August of 2007, this surreal painting went through about five incarnations, before it evolved into the piece you see here.

The word 'mind' evokes something which is an attentive supervisor, or a nanny for our impulses, and I wanted to explore the state then, of being absent minded-that which becomes detached and seperate from the process of thinking-symbolised here by a fragile egg, taking flight from a rooted muse.

Called 'Nature of the Fragile Mind', I feel this is one of my strongest works, and you can bid on it by clicking the picture below:

Belated Valentines piecemeal [18 Feb 2008|04:27pm]

[ mood | cheerful ]

The weekend was spent completing my current piece-a sort of post Valentines character, called 'Mourning Star' whose origins began as a tatoo idea for a freind, and which I ultimately fleshed out into the piece you see before you. Its an acrylic on panel and her tail is in gold paint, so its all shiney. The concept reads thus:

'And through a congealed crimson sky, the musing eye at the core of the brittle world, stared 'pon the mortal soul of man, and wept tears of molten gold...'

Anyway, you know the drill by now-available for seven days on EBay-starting bid $30, or dare I hope it be snapped up for $200...

Happy Monday everyone

The Bard's Dream

At the time of the Roman invasions, a young druidess, Elidan, discovers both her past, and her new destiny in shaping the future. Charged with protecting secret artifacts of the druids, and from Atlantis, as atonement for crimes in a previous life, she flees north to Anglesey, the sacred island of the druids. With the aid of the Sidhe, she reaches the druid stronghold, ahead of the Roman legion. But the Romans also seek the power of the artifacts, and will stop at nothing to discover them.
